Casco Bay Hockey Association was well represented at the Becky Schaffer Award Ceremony held outside Casco Bay Arena on Wednesday. Casco Bay players Lucia Pompeo and Caroline Lerch were finalists with Pompeo taking home the award. Casco Bay alum, Courtney Sullivan, received the Becky Schaffer Award in 2018 and is presently playing for Endicott College.
In addition to a stellar career with Casco Bay, Pompeo was a two-time All-State selection and two-time team captain at Cheverus High School. Pompeo finished second all-time at Cheverus with 60 goals and third in points with 80.

Lerch leaves behind an unparalleled career with Casco Bay, and later posted 117 career goals and 172 career points at Portland/Deering. Lerch also held a 3-0 record in net during her high school career.
The Becky Schaffer Award is awarded to the State’s most oustanding senior girls hockey player, and is given in memory of Becky Schaffer, a star player with Casco Bay, and both the Yarmouth High School Girls and Boys Hockey teams. Becky was truly one of the trailblazers in the development of girls hockey in Maine. Becky tragically died as the result of a hiking accident in 2011.
